 GENERAL PURPOSE Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine office work; answers phones; interacts with internal and external customers; prepares general business literature, reports and spreadsheets; enters work orders; assists with the maintenance of databases; performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The DWP Administrative Clerk is an entry-level position which provides clerical and office support. Incumbents learn and perform a variety of specialized office support duties for the areas in which they are assigned.The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. • Process online purchases for the department upon approval including supplies.
• Perform general clerical duties as assigned.
• Promotes, participates and ensures that the City's safety program and goals are carried out.Knowledge of: 
Office Administration practices and procedures; principles and practices of sound business communication; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation; City organization, functions, rules, policies and procedures applicable to assigned areas. Record keeping, filing, purchasing practices and procedures. Safe practices within the workplace. Ability to:  Operate a computer using word processing, spreadsheet and other business software and other standard office equipment. Operate other standard office equipment. Organize, set priorities and exercise sound judgment within areas of responsibility. Communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.

Understand and follow written and oral instructions. Prepare clear, accurate and concise records and reports. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City management, staff, customers, the public and others encountered in the course of work. Education/Training/Experience:A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school, or G.E.D. equivalent, and one year of increasingly responsible office administrative or secretarial experience. Special Requirements: A valid Class C California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy.

2. Police Department General Assistant

Specific assignments include (but are not limited to) Animal Control, Records, Forensics, Detective Bureau, Personnel and Training.

• Performs janitorial duties which may include kennel maintenance depending on assignment.

DRIVER'S LICENSE: A valid California, Class C Driver's License and a reasonable driving record is required as a condition of employment and continued employment. CITIZENSHIP: Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent Resident Alien meeting the requirements of Government Code Section 1031 (A) and 1031.5. WORK HOURS: Those appointed will be required to work a maximum of 19 hours per week. Appointees may be required to work various hours, shifts, holidays, and weekends. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Character: Applicants must be of good character and reputation. Applicants will be fingerprinted and records checked in both State and Federal Bureaus. Applicants must not have a record of conviction of a serious offense, or numerous convictions of minor offenses.
